Tattoo Removal Treatment

How does it work?

Tattoos are able to stay in place, as the volume of ink in the skin is too high for the body to remove on its own. Laser treatment works by breaking the ink up into smaller pieces. Your body’s immune system is then able to remove it. Laser treatment can only be done once every 4-6 weeks to allow the immune system time to remove the ink.

Prior to the tattoo removal treatment a patch test is performed to assess the skin’s reaction to the laser and determine the most effective energy for the treatment.

What happens immediately after treatment?

Straight after treatment the area will feel hot and skin will form small white layer. This change usually lasts no more than a few minutes before it disappears, this is perfectly normal and a good sign that the treatment is working. The white spots fade quickly and the remaining tattoo will start to show through. Immediately following the treatment, an ice pack is applied to soothe the treated area, follwed by a layer of Aloe Vera. The fading isn’t instant, over the next 4 - 6 weeks the body’s immune system will begin to remove the smaller pieces of ink and the tattoo should begin to get lighter. This will become more obvious with every treatment.

Before you leave you will be given an aftercare sheet explaining everything you need to do to protect the treated area.

How many treatments are required?

This is different for every tattoo as it depends on how well the tattoo was done originally, the colours used and what your end goal is. Some colours are easier than others to get rid of and some immune systems react quicker than others at flushing out the ink. Black ink is the easiest colour and could take as little as 4 sessions

Some people just want to cover a tattoo with another design so a minimal amount of sessions makes it lighter and easier to cover.

More stubborn colours and large tattoos can take several more sessions but each treatment the tattoo should become progressively lighter.

Does Laser Removal Hurt?

The laser emits a very short pulses of light. The feeling you get from this compares to a thin rubber band being flicked on the skin. It does sting during the procedure but almost immediately stops once the treatment stops.
